Rabbi Chanina ben Tradyon says: Rabbi Chanina was a Tanna who lived in the generation of R’ Akiva, during the period of time when the ruling Roman Empire forbade the learning of Torah. He felt it especially appropriate to emphasize the importance of Torah study at this time. He therefore states in the mishnah, that although it is better to learn with a partner, at the very least every person should learn Torah on his own. |
