Thursday - Chapter 6 Mishnah 2

For you can have no freer person than one who is involved in Torah study.
Our sages explain that man in this world is enslaved to his guf – overwhelmed with material wants and desires. However, one who engages in the study of Torah has the ability to subjugate his body to his neshamah, the spiritual realm.

In fact, this adage is derived from the pasuk in Shemos (32:13) “v’haluchos maaseh Elokim heimah … charus al haluchos and the rabbis expound, “Do not read “charus (engraved)” rather “cheirus (free)”. This means to say that the letters of the Luchos were unencumbered by the physical stone of the Tablets, and hovered over the Luchos. Indeed when Moshe threw down the Tablets the letters flew off on their own.

Torah study

Its easy for people to be judgemental and say frumkeit=confinement. "It's so hard and complicated that they need to be learning ALL day!" but those people fail to understand that freedom sometimes has its limits and needs a little restriction. Because too much of a good thing is never good. Look at America!
