Whoever engages in Torah study for its own sake merits many things … the secrets of Torah are revealed to him …

R’ Tzadok HaKohen says that whoever loves the Torah, the Torah loves him and reveals its hidden secrets to him. He cites the gemara (Sanhedrin 99) that one who toils in Torah the Torah toils for him. Rashi there explains that when one works hard in Torah study the Torah wishes to reward him by allowing him to savor the essence of the Torah.

R’ Chaim Volozhiner explains that the study of Torah whets one’s hunger to learn even more Torah and to delve the depths of Torah.

He compares this to an individual who enters the king’s palace and discovers a room filled with precious jewels. He sees a door ahead of him, and when he goes through that opening, he finds another room with even more jewels. When he enters the next doorway, there is a larger room with more valuable jewels. Had he not entered the first room he would have never been aware that there were any treasures in the palace at all.

Similarly, once one begins to learn the Torah, he discovers hidden treasures, which only kindles his desire to pursue further Torah study.
