Moshe received the Torah from Sinai and transmitted it to Yehoshua

R’ Yaakov Emden points out that the mishnah calls him “Moshe” and not “Moshe Rabbeinu”. This is an indication, he explains, that Moshe Rabbeinu did not want any title and for this reason, in fact, he merited to receive the Torah.

Despite his humility, Moshe Rabbeinu did not resist accepting the Torah, like he resisted by the sneh. Why?

The answer is M’Sinai. Moshe realized that just like Sinai was selected as the site for matan Torah because it is the smallest mountain, he was chosen to receive the Torah because of his humility. Therefore, he did not resist this gesture.

The Chasdei Avos points out that Yehoshua too was very humble and therefore Moshe gave the Torah over to him, instead of passing it on to the zekeinim. Yehoshua used to sweep up and clean in the bais medrash and fix the chairs. It was an avodah that the zekeinim preferred not to do.
